Godsmack Enters a New Era: Farewell to a Legendary Duo

After nearly three decades of sonic dominance and unforgettable live performances, Godsmack has announced a significant lineup change that marks the end of an era. On April 2, 2025, the band officially confirmed the departure of guitarist Tony Rombola and drummer Shannon Larkin — two powerhouse musicians whose chemistry on stage helped define Godsmack’s thunderous identity.

According to the band’s statement, both Rombola and Larkin are stepping away from the road to embrace a quieter life outside of touring. While Godsmack emphasized this is not the end of the band, the exit of these longtime members signals a major shift for fans who’ve grown up with their sound and presence.

For us at Riot Media, this one hits hard.

Tony Rombola’s guitar work has always carried a gritty, melodic edge that perfectly balanced Sully Erna’s vocals, while Shannon Larkin brought an undeniable force behind the kit. But perhaps the most iconic piece of Godsmack’s live show — and what we’ll miss most — was the dueling drums. That tribal, head-spinning rhythm section where Sully and Shannon would go head-to-head in a percussion showdown was nothing short of electric. It wasn’t just a performance — it was a ritual, a cathartic moment where the crowd became part of the energy pulsing from the stage.

There’s no denying their departure leaves some big shoes to fill. But Godsmack has made it clear they’re not done yet. With new members on the horizon, fans can expect the band to evolve while still honoring the legacy that’s made them one of the most consistent and beloved acts in hard rock.

We’ll be watching closely to see where they go next. And while change is never easy, it’s also where some of the most exciting things begin.

Until then — thank you, Tony and Shannon, for the decades of crushing riffs, thunderous beats, and unforgettable moments. The dueling drums may fade, but the echo will always remain.
